The objective of Kvenréttindafélag Íslands is to work on women’s rights and the equal status of all genders in all areas of society. The association works on the basis of human rights and works against all kinds of discrimination.
To achieve this objective, the association aims to actively participate in public discourse and focus on the following mission and objectives, which have a clear feminist purpose and an expansive public relevance.
Fundamental Rights
We all have a fundamental right to life and bodily autonomy. The Icelandic Women’s Rights Association works to guarantee people’s autonomy over their bodies. The organizations works against sex-related and sexual violence in all areas of society.
The Icelandic Women’s Rights Association works for the social rights of women
The organizations works to ensure gender and equality education at all levels of education and to dismantle the gender order. The organization ensures that decisions are taken with an awareness of intersectionality and multiple discriminations and is always mindful that the definition of equality is fluid and subject to change.
The Icelandic Women’s Rights Association works for the political rights of women
The association works to strengthen the status of women in politics and public office and to increase the number of women in politics, public office and the judicial system. The association works for equality in public administration, for example gender mainstreaming and gender budgeting.
The Icelandic Women’s Rights Association works for the economic rights of women
The association works on the financial independence of women, to ensure the status of women and improve their conditions in all areas, regardless of disability, age, place of residence, origin, color, sexual orientation, gender identity and opinions. The association works to eradicate gender based income inequality. The association works for a better parental leave system and to shorten the work week with a view to improve gender equality.
