The feminist movement in Iceland stands in solidarity with our sisters in the United States

Women have an inalienable right over their own lives and bodies. The Supreme Court of the United States has just violated these rights.

By restricting access to abortion, the United States Supreme Court has restricted the freedom and liberty of millions of people in their country. These restrictions disproportionately affect low-income people, LBTQ+ people and people of color, and are a racist act.

We urge the federal government and all local and state governments in the United States to immediately guarantee everyone in the United States access to safe and affordable abortions.

We urge the government of Iceland, the Nordic Council and the Council of Europe to condemn the decision of the Supreme Court of the United States to restrict the right to abortion in the strongest possible terms, to stand firm in support of women’s rights across the globe, and to be an active champion for universal access to safe and affordable abortions.
