The Icelandic Human Rights Centre, the Icelandic Women’s Rights Association, the Icelandic Women’s Shelter, and Stígamót – Center for Survivors of Sexual Violence submitted a joint report to GREVIO, regarding the implementation of the Istanbul Convention – Action against violence against women and domestic violence.

The Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) is the first instrument in Europe to set legally binding standards specifically to prevent gender-based violence, protect victims of violence and punish perpetrators. Iceland signed the convention on 11. May 2011, and ratified the convention on 26. April 2018. Iceland submitted a report on the implementation of the convention in September this year (read Iceland’s report here).

GREVIO is the independent expert body responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention) by the Parties. In order to assist the expert body, The Icelandic Human Rights Centre, the Icelandic Women’s Rights Association, the Icelandic Women’s Shelter, and Stígamót – Center for Survivors of Sexual Violence have now submitted an independent report in addition to the Government’s report.
