UPR-unThe Icelandic Women’s Rights Assocation has, in cooperation with the Icelandic Human Rights Office, Stígamót, the Women’s Legal Aid, and Amnesty in Iceland, submitted a shadow report to the UN in preparation for the 26th UPR session in October 2016.

The report lists the concerns of the reporting group with the Icelandic government’s adherence to the recommendations made under the previous UPR cycle, as well as our recommendations.

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a process which involves a review of the human rights records of all UN member states. The UPR is a state-driven process, under the auspices of the Human Rights Council, which provides the opportunity for each State to declare what actions they have taken to improve the human rights situations in their countries and to fulfil their human rights obligations.

Iceland will declare their actions on human rights in October 2016, and this shadow report is meant to serve as a civil society evalation of the state’s efforts.
